First stop-Freeport

InFreeport, or FREEZEport, we got to enjoy about an hour of standing in the cold. After that, we FINALLY boarded a boat. We were allowed to sit on deck, and we saw flying fish! After a while, my parents made me get off. >:-(!! When we got into the water, I discovered something else-Bahamian water is deceptive. When you are not in it, it looks warm, but when you are in it, you know that it's cold. 9 tenths of the reef was dead. After several attempts at snorkeling, during which I nearly drowned twice, got a drink of saltwater through my leaking snorkel, and got a huge rash on the inside of my leg from my flotation device, which seemed to be busy making my rear end hurt rather than making sure other boats didn't kill me on accident. In the end, I gave up, of course, right before my parents saw a trumpetfish, a needlefish, and a moray eel. So, of course, ONCE AGAIN, I miss the interesting stuff. Bleh!

Zada Jane!! I can't believe you wrote that you miss the interesting stuff!!!! Shame on you, you have seen some of the most spectacular stuff imaginable and you're only 10!!! I don't want to fuss at you anymore, because I love your blog so much. Also, the photos are fantastic!!

Pandas make it all better- Chengdu

The next morning after our arrival in Chengdu was our panda tour. The guide told us to look at the first enclosure until she called us. In half of the enclosure were 3 young pandas happily pulling and stuffing their faces with bamboo. After we took millions of pictures and watched them a while, we were intrigued by another large clump of people, so we headed over and saw a larger panda doing some weird routine. He would climb into his cave halfway, with his rear sticking out, climb in fully, stay there a couple seconds, climb out, walk around a corner, come back, stand up, and start over. This became less of a mystery as we rounded the bend, where we saw that he was going in and out of his air- conditioned room between bites of bamboo from his feeding area! Krakow ... These are few of my favorite things

POLSKA! Part 2 Salt, Chopin and chocolate! We got up before breakfast and got on a train for Krakow. Apparently the woman at the ticket station gave us 1st class seats on the way there, but 2nd class on the way back. Huh, oh well. After the very long train ride, we arrived in Krakow, dropped the bags at our hostel and went to the bus station to go to the salt mine.  Copernicus!   Salty!  First, we had to go down 380 steps. After that we started our tour. We learned about methane explosions, how they got horses down into the mine, culture and wood. We heard the legend of St. Kinga, patron saint of salt miners. She was a Hungarian princess and when she was to be married to a Polish prince, she asked her father to give her a salt mine as her dowry (salt was amazingly precious then, one big block could buy you an entire village!). Riga

We arrived just in time for dinner but first we had to check into our hotel. We resisted the temptation to collapse into bed and left the hotel for late afternoon sustenance. We stopped to take pictures of awesome buildings, and I found a flag. We shopped in some other booths and a linen shop.  Riga is famous for “Art Nouveau” and has tons of buildings in that style, but my mom wanted us to look at the older stuff first. My favorite house was the “cat house”. It has 2 cat statues on the roof. The story is that the merchant who owned the house wanted to join a guild but was rejected. To get revenge he placed the 2 cat statues on his roof with their rear ends facing the guild’s house. The guild took him to court and agreed to let the merchant in if he turned the cats around.
