First stop-Freeport

InFreeport, or FREEZEport, we got to enjoy about an hour of standing in the cold. After that, we FINALLY boarded a boat. We were allowed to sit on deck, and we saw flying fish! After a while, my parents made me get off. >:-(!! When we got into the water, I discovered something else-Bahamian water is deceptive. When you are not in it, it looks warm, but when you are in it, you know that it's cold. 9 tenths of the reef was dead. After several attempts at snorkeling, during which I nearly drowned twice, got a drink of saltwater through my leaking snorkel, and got a huge rash on the inside of my leg from my flotation device, which seemed to be busy making my rear end hurt rather than making sure other boats didn't kill me on accident. In the end, I gave up, of course, right before my parents saw a trumpetfish, a needlefish, and a moray eel. So, of course, ONCE AGAIN, I miss the interesting stuff. Bleh!

Zada Jane!! I can't believe you wrote that you miss the interesting stuff!!!! Shame on you, you have seen some of the most spectacular stuff imaginable and you're only 10!!! I don't want to fuss at you anymore, because I love your blog so much. Also, the photos are fantastic!!

July 12, 2008 Today we went to Te Papa. It is a museum with so much cool stuff; I really couldn’t decide what I liked best. First we went to Awesome Forces. There was an earthquake house, a place where you could make and earthquake, a baby’s crib with bricks in it, and a screen with mirrored walls and floors. Next we saw “Mountains to Sea”. There was the skeleton of a baby whale. The skeleton was so large it stretched from one end of the room to the other. We saw other sea animal skeletons. Next there was a Discovery Centre and I walked on blocks, played a Maori stick game and swung what looked like balls on the end of string. I also went into the meeting house, sleeping house and food house. Then we went to the 1800’s exhibit. I played a ship game and came in second place. Then I smelled some whiskey. It was disgusting! 46, 47, 48 ...

State number 46 was MINNESOTA, but not really, we were just driving through to get to real state number 46 WISCONSIN! State of cheese! In Wisconsin we went to St. Croix National Scenic River. It was extremely scenic with a colorful array of wildflowers. I did the Junior Ranger program and we explored the river a bit - not enough. We really needed to bring our own canoe or kayaks and spend a few days, but there were mosquitoes the size of mini-coopers! It was so bad that layers and layers of mosquito repellant couldn't hold them off and we are still scratching! Wisconsin, beautiful, but itchy. State number 47 was MINNESOTA! Really this time (I am not allowed to say I have been somewhere unless I have actually gotten out of the car and done something special or unique to the place - my mom's rule). Finally, a few minutes to use the computer!

July 4, 2008 Last night, we went to bed early, but my parents woke me up at 11:00 PM! We drove to Dallas in the rental car, known as the “dork mobile”. (My family called our rental car that.) We hated that giant, maroon, Californian car. Anyways, I got SO tired that I fell asleep on the duffle bag. If you want MY advice, never fall asleep on a duffle bag, especially if it is filled with hiking boots. If you want to be comfortable, that’s good advice. When we got to Dallas, we returned the Dork Mobile and went to the airport to get on the plane “United”. That flight was VERY exciting! First, there was a mechanical issue, then there was a medical issue and the plane was like a bouncy, covered roller coaster, meaning lots of turbulence. The views were incredible!
