Warsaw- killer mermaid town

POLSKA! Part 1

rainbow pegasi!
We landed in Warsaw and took a bus to out rainbow hotel, Jan III Sobieski. After putting our bags up, we first went to the War Memorial of Warsaw’s uprising against the Nazis. Personally, I think it would have been better without little children swinging off the rifles.
We couldn’t get a good picture, so we went to the National Library to look at the rainbow pegasi (yes, Madeleine, there was a hot pink Pegasus). We got several pictures and then were finally able to get a good shot of the War Monument because the little kids left.

Then we went to the Old Town. The houses had magnificent designs on them. The doors had beautiful statures and there were amazing painted designs. One even had a dragon on it! The flowers were beautiful. I also liked the mermaid fountain.

What was amazing was that it was all rebuilt after WWII. After Warsaw’s Uprising the Nazis destroyed the town, so the people used pictures to build it all back exactly the way it was.

I counted 5 mermaid statues. There is also a mermaid on the Warsaw flag because, according to legend, a mermaid came to Warsaw to rest. She liked it so much that she decided to stay. Fishermen found that someone was releasing their fish and tangling their nets. They were going to punish that person, but when they heard the mermaid sing, they were enraptured. A merchant’s son thought of how much money he would make by having the mermaid sing in fairs, so he captured her. A sailor and his mates rescued her and in gratitude the mermaid vowed to protect the city forever. So all of the mermaid statues we saw here have a sword and a shield.

We ate at a cafĂ©. Apparently people don’t drink just milk in Poland, because I had to ask for a cup of the milk that they put in your coffee. The cheesecake (which my parents loved) reminded me of the crepe I had in Peru, but the Sacher torte was great! We admired a dragon on top of the restaurant and then we went back to the hotel for a long sleep.
