from bad food to Nazca Lines

Houston to Lima
The trip began for me on a high note. The airport hotel had a Sonic right next door! The next Morning we had to be up soooo early for our flight to Toronto. I slept the whole way there. When we arrived it was time for lunch. Unfortunately the only place with decent vegetarian options was Coyote Jack's. We ate gardenburgers and their "howlin' good fries". The burger however was "howlin' bad".
When we finally boarded the plane I stayed up for some time watching movies. Finally, in the middle of Percy Jackson, my parents interrupted and made me try to sleep. I soon regretted not sleeping when I could because our plane landed at midnight. We had to go through customs and immigration and then got a taxi to the bus station for our 4am bus. When we got to the bus station we discovered that it was closed until 3:45. Fortunately our kindly taxi driver found us a gas station to hang out in for 2 hours until the bus place openned. My dad and I played war until it was time. Luckily our bus was there and ready when we got in.
Once we got on the bus I went right to sleep. When I woke up it was breakfast time. The food on the bus was good but not great. By then it was not dark any more and we could see the scenery. The south coast of Peru is desolate and desert-like. There are a few trees but mostly sand and rocks. The houses are surprisingly small and most of the roads are not paved.
It was a little after 11am when we got to Nazca. It's a small town and there is not much here but the lines. After we checked in to our hotel we got taken out the the Nazca airport to get a flight over the lines. The Nazca lines are awesome! And so is the plane ride. First, the lines, we saw all the famous images like the whale, astronaut, monkey, spider, and hummingbird. Some of the lines are really just shapes and they're not as interesting. Second, the plane ride is great because the pilot banks left and right so you can look down at the ground easily from your window. A dutch woman riding with us got sick. We are not done sorting our pictures yet so I can't post any but I will try to have some for next time.

Your postings have been very, very interesting. They are so well written with excellent photographs, it makes us feel like we are traveling with you!
The Nazca Lines are fascinating and beautiful. The weather seems a lot better than New Zealand. So far which trip have you enjoyed the most?
Sorry we haven't written sooner, but after staying three months (rather than one) with Grandma Q and Max, we got home to Sanibel and found some problems!
Lightning had struck the tall coconut palm tree in front of our house and a power surge had knocked out one of our computer printers, the refrigerator, the central air conditioning, and we had no running water! It was 91 degrees when we walked into the house. So we have been camping out in the house with ice in a cooler serving as our refrigerator and the swimming pool being our substitute shower! Everything will finally be the way you remember it when we get a new refrigerator delivered tomorrow!
