difficulties solved!, happy birthday tatum!
Due to technical difficulties - no wifi in Vatnajokull National Park - I can´t post my actual blog entries for the last couple of days or pictures. I did get my parents to buy some internet access on the park´s computer though, so I hope you have a very Happy Birthday Tatum! I will post the picture of your card next time there is wifi!

Como te llamas?

A phrase which here means: "how are your llamas". Today we went to the Incalpaca and Michell factory stores. They make clothes from llama, alpaca and vicuna hair. Both had little camelid zoos. At the Michell , you can actually pet alpacas and llamas, but at Incalpaca they had all 4 camelids, but no petting. After pestering the camelids enough, we went shopping. I bought a bag, a t shirt, and 2 balls of alpaca wool yarn. Later, from a shop we passed I bought a reversible chullo hat with llamas on it made from alpaca and a matching scarf and gloves. Along the way we saw the world's coolest walk/ don't walk light. I'll post the video here. Finally we went to Touristic Restaurant on the Top.

Wellington to Christchurch

July 12, 2008 Today we went to Te Papa. It is a museum with so much cool stuff; I really couldn’t decide what I liked best. First we went to Awesome Forces. There was an earthquake house, a place where you could make and earthquake, a baby’s crib with bricks in it, and a screen with mirrored walls and floors. Next we saw “Mountains to Sea”. There was the skeleton of a baby whale. The skeleton was so large it stretched from one end of the room to the other. We saw other sea animal skeletons. Next there was a Discovery Centre and I walked on blocks, played a Maori stick game and swung what looked like balls on the end of string. I also went into the meeting house, sleeping house and food house. Then we went to the 1800’s exhibit. I played a ship game and came in second place. Then I smelled some whiskey. It was disgusting! Krakow ... These are few of my favorite things

POLSKA! Part 2 Salt, Chopin and chocolate! We got up before breakfast and got on a train for Krakow. Apparently the woman at the ticket station gave us 1st class seats on the way there, but 2nd class on the way back. Huh, oh well. After the very long train ride, we arrived in Krakow, dropped the bags at our hostel and went to the bus station to go to the salt mine.  Copernicus!   Salty!  First, we had to go down 380 steps. After that we started our tour. We learned about methane explosions, how they got horses down into the mine, culture and wood. We heard the legend of St. Kinga, patron saint of salt miners. She was a Hungarian princess and when she was to be married to a Polish prince, she asked her father to give her a salt mine as her dowry (salt was amazingly precious then, one big block could buy you an entire village!).
